Living in a rental home means I’m always balancing my creative desires to decorate this space with the practicality of spending money on a house that’s not ours and is meant to be temporary. But when this Harry Potter wallpaper popped up on my newsfeed this morning, all sensibility flew out of me like a golden snitch.
The MinaLima site has been down all morning, but rumor has it this wallpaper costs about $89 pounds/roll, which is a little more than $111 US dollars. I’m not sure how many sq. feet each roll will cover, but I’m guessing (based on other high-end wallpaper brands) it’s not going to be a whole bunch. One FB commenter (who I guess got an order in before the site crashed) said she spent over $400 pounds for enough for just one wall. You can do the math- it’s gonna be pricey to cover even just an accent wall.
If you can budget for just one roll, though, here are some creative ways you can work this Harry Potter wallpaper into your home:
Tapestry Headboard
The Black family tree is depicted in this tapestry design. Tapestry is an ornate and rich fabric, and fabric headboards are stunning statement pieces. One roll ought to be enough to create a faux fabric headboard, like this one by Emma Casti for Remodelista.
A Secret Behind The Door
The Marauder’s Map is supposed to be kept a secret, so I love the idea of framing a panel on the back of a door that you can only see once you’ve closed yourself inside the room, like this example from the Wallpaper Projects: 50 Craft and Design Ideas For Your Home book, via StyleAtHome.com
A Window Into A Magical World
These golden snitches flying about would be a whimsical scene through a windowpane, just like looking out over a Quidditch match from your own room.
We did something similar in our rental house. The two youngest boys are sharing a wilderness themed room, and we put Chasing Paper “Wild” samples behind the panes of a vintage window.

A Reading Nook
The Hogwarts Library Book Covers design is, obviously, begging for a cozy spot where you can snuggle up with a book, sit & learn a spell. If you don’t already have a little nook in your house like this one…

You can frame one out, like Pottery Barn Modern Baby did here. (This project make take more than one roll, depending on the size.)

Plaster Paper On Furniture
This Daily Prophet paper design + an inexpensive IKEA RAST dresser would make a bold statement piece!
Check out our own IKEA RAST makeover here, along with a review of the dresser.
Here’s an example from At Home With Ashley.
I can’t be sure because the MinaLima site is still down, but I think this wallpaper is traditional and not peel & stick. If that’s the case, you may need to use something like Mod Podge to adhere the paper to some of these projects. Here’s a simple tutorial on how to do that from Design Sponge.
I’m still thinking on if I want to do something temporary with these in our rental house. Or, do I want to wait (and save!) for the next house we buy? They are all pretty perfect for a game room. But, I’m also in love with the idea of plastering a whole half bath with the Daily Prophet!
